Philadelphia Phillies Matt Strahm and Boston Red Sox Kutter Crawford were both thrown out of the game between both teams as they take things too far doing a standoff during the game's national anthem performance.
In the past, there have been standoffs and have been able to be handled but this time given that Crawford and Strahm used to be teammates in Boston and they both knew each other, and were thrown off the game with a fine.
The MLB's new pitch clock requirements are very clear about how much time is administered for each part of the game, and umpires urged both pitchers to return to their dugouts or else.
When both pitchers had to prove a point the umpires had no choice but to eject them both
Currently, Crawford is on a 15-day injured list while Alex Cora, the Red Sox manager claims that a teammate will help Crawford pay the fine.
"I know there's a guy that went to the same school as him that's probably going to take care of that," he said.
Red Sox Chris Sale went to Florida Gulf Coast University with Crawford so it is evident that he is the friend that the manager was talking about.
Strahm said that "Zero of it was planned, just as the anthem was over, and I looked across, and Kutter kind of gave me a grin, and I knew exactly what that grin meant, so [I] just stood there."
"If you know me, you know the competition is everything to me, so kind of felt like I was being called out right there. Looking back on it, probably not the wisest decision I've made in my big-league career."
